Many people tend to overlook the cleanliness of their microwave, leading to the accumulation of food residues and grease inside the appliance. This not only results in unpleasant odors emanating from the microwave but also provides a breeding ground for bacteria, potentially turning it into a hotbed for viruses and germs. Below are six simple methods to help you effortlessly remove stubborn stains and odors from your microwave.
1. Wet Kitchen Paper Towels
-
If there are no cleaning supplies at home, the simplest method is to dampen kitchen paper towels and then place them in the microwave.
-
Heat on high power for up to 5 minutes. Allow the kitchen paper to cool before using it to wipe the inside of the microwave clean. Heating the damp kitchen paper will turn water into steam, softening the stains inside the microwave, making them easy to wipe away.
2. Baking Soda
-
For stubborn stains on the microwave turntable, you can mix baking soda and water in a ratio of 2:1, then apply the mixture generously to the stains for 5 minutes.
-
After the stains have softened, you can use a damp sponge or cloth to wipe away the stains and baking soda.
3. Vinegar and Water
-
In a microwave-safe container, pour half a cup of water, add a tablespoon of white vinegar, then microwave on high for 5 minutes. The microwaving process will allow the diluted vinegar to evaporate inside the microwave, softening stubborn hardened stains. Afterwards, wipe the inside of the microwave clean with a clean dishcloth or paper towel, remove the turntable and wash it, then place it back inside the microwave.
4. Vinegar and Baking Soda
-
Start by adding 4 teaspoons of baking soda to approximately 1 liter of warm water, ensuring the baking soda dissolves completely, then use a cloth or sponge to apply the baking soda solution to the interior of the microwave.
-
Mix equal parts of water and white vinegar in a microwave-safe container, then place it in the microwave and heat on high for 3 minutes. After heating, do not open the microwave door immediately; let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then open the door and remove the container and turntable. Wash the turntable with soapy water and wipe the interior of the microwave clean with diluted white vinegar.
5. Lemon Juice
-
Place it in the microwave and heat for 1 minute to turn the lemon juice and water into steam. After heating, use a kitchen paper towel to wipe the inside of the microwave clean.
6. Dish Soap
-
In a microwave-safe container, pour half a cup of warm water, add a suitable amount of dish soap, and microwave on high for 1 minute. After heating, remove the container and wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp sponge. If there are any lingering odors in the microwave, you can also add a small amount of baking soda to neutralize them.
